    Software Factories anyone? ;-)

I am a Microsoft ISV Architect Evangelist and like Software Factories. I also joined the user group a few weeks back and thought I will toss in a topic on Software Factories. While Software Factories was heated up in 2004 it got silent for a bit, but lately we see some more movement again with the notion of Software Factories 2.0. How do Software Factories fit into our environment today? Who is using them? What tools are out there? What is coming in the near future? What is Microsoft doing in that space?......

Many questions that could make for a good discussion.

Thanks for the suggestion, Gunther!  Are you offering to speak?  :)

I will be announcing at the meeting tonight an additional Open Spaces meeting every month to augment our existing meetings.  Your suggestion specifically mentions that this topic would make a good discussion - do you think the Open Spaces meeting would be a better venue to discuss this over the standard UG presentation?

    Jess,

well I didn't really offer to speak ;-), just yet. But sure, I would be happy to present if there is interest. Depending on the goal a discussion makes sense as well either as alternative or follow up. The problematic part is that most of the attendees should understand what the Software Factories paradigm works and agree on some basic vocabulary (which is actually not as trivial as it sounds ;-) and might be more efficiently conveyed via a presentation). I will have a presentation at the NYC user group next week.....I like the idea you mention about open space, I have been to a few open space events over the last years, and it usually was a great experience. It gives much more opportunities to interact and instead of formalizing an agenda you can talk about what matters at any point of time if you find some other people interested, that is. I am not sure how open spaces works for regular (monthly meetings) in the meetings I have been it was always more like a few days in a row intensive open space, which worked great. Perhaps, it would be beneficial to have a market place online though? Unfortunately I will not be able to make the meeting tonight :-( (I am doing an executive MBA at NYU and therefore I will be in the city tonight). Well if there is interest I can present at a future meeting or, I will show up for the open space :-), or both :-).
